Hi, I'm Jo!
Hi, My name is Jo! I am a college student who lives in a tiny apartment in the middle of nowhere Midwest. I recently got married in June of 2023 at the ripe old age of 19. I have always had what some may call an old soul. This means I have plants all over my home, I crochet on the regular, I love to bake (especially bread), and In my house there is not only an old pink armchair notoriously named the "grandma chair" but also a green shag rug and a typewriter. To make it all better my favorite way to listen to music is on vinyl and my recipe box is full of polaroids of my most successful attempt of each recipe.
When I got married there was no end to the advice. It was all welcome, and sometimes repetitive, but every time gave me a better idea of what I was in for. However, something nobody ever told me was how much getting married was going to make me want to become a homesteader. Now, I know what you're thinking... "You're crazy!" "You're just caught up in summertime and farmer's markets!" "That's weird for someone your age to be dreaming about!" The funniest part is I don't think any of those statements are wrong! I am a little bit crazy! I love farmers markets and they definetly give me way too many ideas. As someone who grew up dreaming to live in a city with my cat, going to coffee shops every day, and designing fashion or writing books, this certianly is an unexpected turn for me.
What I also didn't know as a kid was that you don't have to live in a city to be social. I actually enjoy hosting more than going out, thrifting more than buying new, picnics in the middle of nowhere instead of surrounded by people, and who needs coffee shops when I can be my own barista! All these "old lady" hobbies I've had growing up have almost prepared me for my "destiny" as a homesteader.
Now, before I get too far I should clear something up. When I say homesteading I do not at all intend to become Amish or some other variation of the idea of going off the grid and entirely sustaining myself. My husband and I first connected through movies and we don't intend to stop going to the movie theater when a new movie comes out. I also love clothes and could never try to sew it all for myself whenever I want to hop on a new trend. However, the thought of gardening and canning and baking all summer and crocheting and sewing all winter while I take care of my chickens (and maybe a couple other animals if I can convince my husband) sounds so enchanting. So, for future reference, when I say homesteading I really mean turning wherever I live into a home and attempting to make things for myself rather than buying it at the store.
So, what is the purpouse of this blog? What am I getting myself into?? Well I am glad you asked my most loved reader. I have always loved to write and this blog is me forcing myself to sit down and write at LEAST once a week. It will probably go through all my little adventures making things, cooking, or just learning little things about life. I find life in general to be so interesting and this blog should help you and me to appreciate the little things. I hope you enjoy laughing with me at my mistakes and rejoicing with me at my triumphs. Maybe we'll both learn something along the way. If you don't, well, hopefully you're at least entertained. Thank you for getting this far and I hope you enjoy my blog!
Happy reading!!
