The Best Hamburger Buns Ever

Hamburgers are either the simplest or most complicated things to make. If you have read any of my other posts you may see that I love to over complicate things. My favorite recipes are the ones that have a lot of parts and require me to do a couple things at a time. That is actually one of the reasons I love making bread! I also think uncovering a a bowl of dough an hour after you knead it and seeing it double in size is one of the coolest things ever. So, of course, when I had a craving for hamburgers the other day I wanted to make everything from scratch or what I already had in my pantry.

My favorite source for recipes right now is Pinterest and I knew I had saved one for brioche buns that looked pretty good a while back. I started of my hamburger adventure by digging through my hundreds of saved pins to find it. Sadly, I did not find it but instead found a different bun recipe that was only supposed to take 40 min. Of course I had to try it and I started mixing.

It first wanted me to mix a ton of yeast with sugar, warm water, and oil. I was a little skeptical because of the amount of yeast and I have never activated yeast with oil but it worked amazingly. After 5 minutes the yeast was nice and bubbly so I did not question it.

I then whisked in the egg and started to incorporate the salt and flour bit by bit. I did all of that with my stand mixer because I'm lazy and it makes me feel super fancy. I continued to use the dough hook attachment to knead my mixture until it was pretty smooth and elastic. I then dumped everything onto my floured countertop and divided into 8 equal pieces. Edit: the next time I made this I made even more buns (I think 10-12) because the first time the buns got pretty big. I ended up liking the smaller ones better. Once you have the dough divided shape each one into a ball.

Once I divided the dough I started preheating my oven to 425 degrees F and I put each dough ball on a lined baking sheet and let rest in a warm spot for 10 min. It is amazing what a bit of yeast can do in only 10 min! Once they were well rested I brushed the top of each with an egg wash and sprinkled sesame seeds on top of that. I then popped them in the oven for 10 min or until the tops were golden.

Every time I make these my husband and I can't help but eat them steaming out of the oven but I also like to keep them in an airtight container for a few days on my counter. I'm not sure how long they last that way though because we eat them so fast. These buns are perfect for PB&J, hamburgers, and even just plain! If you try this recipe please comment what you made with them and how they turned out!
