Winter Spice Drink Syrup

One of my favorite winter flavors is spiced orange, aka winter spice. I incorporate it into cake, meat, and now even my morning coffee. Some may think this flavor combo is a little odd but seriously, try it and it will not disappoint!

To make my winter spice syrup, I start by mixing together my sugar, water, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, and vanilla all together in a small saucepan. Then, I bring it to a simmer and continue to stir it until the sugar is dissolved. When the sugar is dissolved I zest an orange then juice it and mix in all of the zest but only 1 tablespoon of the orange juice. I continue to let that simmer until it is slightly thick, keeping in mind that it will thicken up a little more as it cools.

My favorite drink to make with this isn't actually a latte, but rather a winter spice chai latte! To make this I mix together my homemade chai powder with some hot water and about a tablespoon of this syrup and am transported to a spiced heaven!
